On Tuesday (January 10) author Ray Miller will launch his book telling the story of Dan Albone, Biggleswade’s most famous historical figure.

The late Victorian inventor developed the hands-off safety bicycle, the first practical ladies’ bicycle, the tandem bicycle, the Ivel Motor Car, the Ivel Motor Bicycle and the Ivel Agricultural Motor or tractor. Ray’s book is entitled Dan Albone – Cyclist, Inventor and Manufacturer and covers Dan’s life and work in detail.

The book, which also includes copies of all of Dan’s patents and several of his catalogues, will be launched with Biggleswade History Society on Tuesday. Members and non-members can attend at Biggleswade Conservative Club for an 8pm start. Entry is free.

The book will be available at a reduced cost of £20 through the history society on the night or from editor@biggleswadehistory.org.uk
