A CHRONICLE Country town could take on Fairtrade status in 2012.
Potton is following in the footsteps of Biggleswade and is seeking to become a Fairtrade Town as it completes the necessary five goals.
The idea to apply for Fairtrade status first came up when the Potton Town Plan was formed two years ago.
A steering group was set up to encourage the sale of Fairtrade products, a campaign which has been received enthusiastically in the town.
Andy Hopkins, a member of Potton Town Council and of the steering group, said: “The Co-op supermarket in Potton has been selling Fairtrade products for some time now and other businesses are also on board.
“St Mary’s Church, Potton Vineyard Church and The Old Coach House pub have been ordering in Fairtrade products and Burgoyne Middle School has been involved.
“Potton Town Council is also officially backing the application.”
