A FOOTBALL club’s plans to refurbish its headquarters have been approved by councillors.
Sandy Town Council has given permission for Sandy Football Club to seek grant funding and prepare plans for the refurbishment of Bedford Road Football Pavilion.
Neighbours were worried that this would mean more matches, pitches and traffic – but the town council has moved to reassure them that this will not be the case.
Town clerk, Delia Shephard, said: “Unfortunately there has been some misinformation in the community about the scale and impact of this potential refurbishment of the football club’s pavilion.
“There are no proposals to install floodlights, create additional pitches or increase the number of games played at Bedford Road nor is it planned to use large amounts of public money to fund this refurbishment.”
The pavilion is leased from Sandy Town Council.
At the town council meeting on Monday (June 18) councillors agreed in principle that if the club is successful in securing funding for the refurbishment the council will give permission for the internal refurbishment of the building, the development of a small extension to provide additional facilities for match officials and off-road parking for 12 to 15 cars on match days.
