Chiffchaffs and events at the RSPB

THIS family of freshly fledged baby chiffchaffs was spotted on the RSPB reserve in Sandy.

Volunteer, James Clark, snapped the picture of the chicks with one of their parents.

And on this Jubilee weekend you too can spot the wildlife at The Lodge.

On Tuesday (June 5) youngsters will adore Bug-ingham Palace! The aim of the day, which runs from 11am to 3pm, is to build a bug hotel that will make a great home for lots insects.

This in turn will prove plenty of natural food for the birds. It will be called Bug-ingham Palace in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Drop by any time to add a piece to the palace. You can bring your own materials or use the RSPB’s.

Then on Thursday (June 7) there will be an Optics Demo. The RSPB’s expert will be on hand to demonstrate the latest binoculars and telescopes. Stop by to try them out while enjoying the birds on view.

Finally, children enjoying their half term can take part in the Mini Beast Safari on Friday (June 8). It runs from 2pm to 4pm.

Discover the fascinating bugs, beetles and mini beasts that live on the reserve.

You will need to book ahead by calling The Lodge on 01767 680541. Adults get in free, children cost £4 and RSPB Wildlife Explorers cost just £3.
