BATMAN will be fighting crime in the capital on marathon day.

Biggleswade’s Bernard Rix will be running the London Marathon to raise funds for Crimestoppers – and he will swap his standard running gear for a batman outfit.

Appropriately the superhero is known for fighting crime without revealing his identity.

Bernard, who volunteers for Bedfordshire Crimestoppers, said, “I wanted to find a way of raising funds for this important, independent charity. I hope that my running the London Marathon will, in a small way, help to fight crime across our county.

“Not to mention, it’s a great excuse to pretend to be Batman.”

He will take on the popular 26.2 mile challenge on Sunday, April 22.

He will be one of 43 runners raising money for the independent crime fighting charity. Each must collect at least £1,350 and Bernard has already raised nearly £650.

The charity takes information about crime anonymously on 0800 555111. Callers do not give any personal information.

Information can also be given via the organisation’s encrypted online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org

On average 23 people per day are arrested and charged as a result of information given to Crimestoppers. One person every nine days is charged with murder.
