An author who grew up in Gamlingay has just published her first novel.

Maggie Allder’s thriller Courting Rendition is available online or to order via bookshops.

Maggie explained: “It’s set a little in the future and is about a recently retired woman who becomes aware of a homelessness issue and decides she should do something to help. But she gets into trouble with the authorities.

“It’s the story of what happens to her when she’s up against a not very sympathetic authority.”

The book also tackles the issue of the death penalty, which is something Maggie is familiar with as a volunteer with the organisation Human Writes, which sees people writing to prisoners on death row in America.

Although Courting Rendition is the first book to be published, it is not the first Maggie has written.

She said: “I wrote a trilogy a long time ago. I did it the old fashioned way of writing to publishers, but life took over and I gave up.

“I really want to write another. I have lots of ideas for it, but as usual it’s a case of finding the time!”

While she now lives in Hampshire, Maggie still has family in Gamlingay, and is a frequent visitor.
