Stratton Upper School celebrated the success of last year’s GCSE and A-level students during their awards evening last Friday.

“As ever selecting the recipients of our awards was particularly difficult,” said Headteacher Rob Watson.

“It was made all the more challenging in the light of both GCSE and A-level outcomes being well ahead of national results, we have so many wonderful students.”

In his address Mr Watson praised the students for their hard work, but also reflected on the many other aspects of Stratton life, in particular the impact of the many trips and visits organised by staff, that do so much to enhance the curriculum and the personal development of students.

Stratton Upper School welcomed as its guest of honour ex-student Michael Bates OBE, who has recently retired from a career in the Foreign Office.

Michael’s career saw him open embassies in the recently created states of Latvia and Bratislava, he also talked about his time as a Press Officer in 10 Downing Street, dealing with the government’s response to certain incidents.

Mr Bates’s message was simple, he had been a quiet student but one who had always been very ambitious.
