Today, the centre will hold a Potton to Sutton walk, which also forms part of the Bedfordshire Walking Festival.

It is a circular walk between the ancient market town of Potton and the former estate village of Sutton.

Starting in the centre of Potton, the walk continues to the picturesque village of Sutton where walkers will get to see the medieval church and Sutton Ford, with its 13th century ironstone bridge.

Walkers should meet at the car park on Brook End in Potton at 2.45pm and the walk is free as it is part of the walking festival.

On Thursday, September 18, there will be an opportunity to go on a guided walk through Willington which will be led by members of the Willington History Group.

The riverside village is dominated by the tower of St Lawrence Church which will be one of the main attractions on the walk.

Another prominent feature of the walk will be the massive Tudor stone dovecote, with nesting boxes for 1,500 birds, which was once the manor house where Henry VIII stayed.

To go on the walk meet at the National Trust Dovecote and Stables car park in Willington.

The cost will be £5.50 and tickets should be booked in advance by calling 01767 682728 or visiting Sandy Tourist Information Centre.
