A SCHOOL has paid tribute to a four-year-old girl who has died after being in collision with a reversing car.
Stephen Phillips, executive headteacher and Chris Greenhall, headteacher at Southlands Lower School in Biggleswade, hope to create a lasting tribute to Olivia Hicks.
Olivia, of London Road, Biggleswade, died of her injuries after becoming trapped under the Ford Focus in a Coppice Mead driveway on Monday, February 20.
She was airlifted to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge after being freed by firefighters but she died on Saturday of a brain injury she had sustained.
A statement released by Mr Phillips and Mr Greenhall said: “It is with great sadness that we have advised parents this week of the death of one of our pupils.
“The death of any child is a tragedy and everyone at the school feels deeply the loss of one of our own.
“At this terrible time our thoughts are with the child’s family, who have asked us to respect their wishes for absolute privacy.
“As time goes by we will of course be thinking of ways that the school can create a lasting tribute.”
The HM Coroner for Cambridge has opened an inquest into the death.
Police officers from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Collision Investigation Unit also launched a full investigation at the time of the collision.
