A steam train is set to puff into Arlesey Railway Station for the first time since it was built.

The Cathedrals Express is set to pull in to the station on Saturday, August 2 pulled by the 1930s steam locomotive Union of South Africa.

It will be picking up passengers for a day trip to the north east of England.

The train is set to depart from the station at 8.15am when it will make its way, full steam ahead, up the East Coast Mainline, stopping in York and Scarborough.

Passengers disembarking at York will have several hours to explore this magnificent Cathedral City, which features many historic attractions including the largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe.

Those who stay on to Scarborough will have plenty of time to enjoy the seaside resort’s award winning beaches, the harbour and Scarborough Castle.

Tickets for this day trip are available in four classes ranging from £99 to £249 per person.

Steam Dreams’ Chairman, Marcus Robertson, said: “This will be the first time that a steam train has ever visited the new Arlesey Station since it opened in 1988, so it will be an exciting occasion for the local community.
