A community stalwart had a brush with royalty after attending a garden party at Buckingham Palace.

Christina Boxall received the invitation to the prestigious event this week in recognition over the work she has done in the Potton community over the past 40 years.

A founder member of St Mary’s Singers, Potton Twinning Association and the Potton Playhouse, Christina has been seriously ill undergoing 14 major operations, yet still continues to care for others.

She also organised the town’s Diamond Jubilee Flower Show.

Christina said: “What an amazing, once in a lifetime experience it was. My husband Tony accompanied me and walking through the main gates of the Palace was very exciting. Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh, HRH Prince Charles and Camilla, HRH Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex attended. We were lucky to see them all very closely and we felt so proud to be British as the bands struck up the National Anthem.

“I can’t thank the people involved in applying for this invite enough. I am deeply honoured to have been nominated and the memory will stay with us and I really can tell our grandchildren ‘yes I did have tea with the Queen’.”
