A green fingered guru has been getting rave reviews after publishing a book designed to inspire wannabe gardeners without a garden.

Philippa Pearson from Gamlingay recently published Small Space Big Ideas, which features top gardening tips and projects for people with limited gardening space.

Whether you have a windowsill or balcony or just a wall or porch as your garden, Philippa shares tips to make sure you can grow beautiful blooms and tasty fruit and vegetables.

And the book has been getting rave reviews over the pond, where it is known as Spmall Space Garden Ideas.

Philippa, who is an award winning garden designer who has won acclaim at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and Hampton Court Palace Flower Show said: “I spent most of spring and summer last year working with a team from Dorling Kindersley preparing ideas for projects then organising plants and props for photography shoots.

“The book has been really well received in America as gardeners really like the craft style approach of the projects and it’s picked up some great reviews there as well as in the UK.”

The New York Journal of Books praised the work, stating in its review: “Philippa Pearson’s Small Space Garden Ideas is an archive of perfectly formed ideas for indoor and outdoor garden inspiration.

“Certainly the sky is the limit for Philippa Pearson and with some imagination and compost, there is no reason why one could not recreate their own private hanging gardens of Babylon.”

Philippa writes monthly features on gardens and gardening for Hertfordshire Life and Essex Life, and also contributes occasional articles for national magazines and newspapers including Homes & Gardens, BBC Gardeners’ World and The English Garden.

Her private garden design projects include large and small gardens and estates across East Anglia and London.

Projects covered in the book include micro gardens in tin cans, hanging baskets, miniature greenhouses, how to make your own decorative planters and how to create a hanging insect house to attract butterflies and bees.
