A pre-school has been graded as ‘satisfactory’ – but was generally praised by inspectors.

Details of Dunton Village Pre-school’s October Ofsted have just been released.

The grade was pulled down by a one off change to the ratio of qualified staff.

The report says: “Children make good progress.

“The manager is appropriately qualified and has many years of experience. She provides good support to all practitioners.”

Teaching is of a consistently good quality.

Children are given the chance to play independently as well as participating in adult led activities.

There are plenty of resources and “thoughtful interaction from practitioners.”

Children are well prepared for the move to school.

With regard to leadership the report states: “This inspection was brought forward as the setting notified Ofsted that they had failed to meet the requirements with regard to staff qualifications for one day.

“The inspection found that the manager works hard to ensure that the qualifications of practitioners do not affect children’s learning or well-being.

“However, maintaining correct qualification ratios is a legal requirement and the setting failed to meet this requirement, thereby compromising the children’s welfare on that day.”

But other safeguarding arrangements are sound.
