Renowned oncologist Rob Thomas was the guest speaker as businesswomen in Bedfordshire welcomed the men to a charity networking dinner.

The Here Come The Boys event hosted by Bedfordshire BusinessWomen and sponsored by 2SMS at the Bedford Blues Rugby Club, on January 16 was hailed a huge success.

Companies from all over the county were represented and helped raise money for the Primrose Research and Education Fund at Bedford Hospital.

The event focussed on a healthy life/work balance with a nutritious meal provided by Capers Catering and eye-catching table decorations supplied by Creations Flowers, incorporating broccoli and pomegranate.

Helen Nellis, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire and Bedfordshire Business Ambassador, delivered a speech promoting the county and in particular the work undertaken at Bedford Hospital, of which she has previously been chairman.

Consultant oncologist, Professor Rob Thomas, went on to give an enlightening presentation on the benefits of diet and exercise in preventing cancer and reducing the risks of relapse.

As a published author, media spokesman and the editorial advisor for the Channel 4 series The Food Doctor with Dr Pixie Mckenna, Professor Thomas has spent years researching the impact of foods in the fight against cancer.

This research has led to the launch of Pomi-T, a whole food supplement, which has been scientifically tested and initially trialled on male prostate cancer sufferers with significant results.

Emma Garrett, BBW president, said: “It was great to have so many people from across the county join us at the Bedford Blues ground, raising money for a cause particularly close to my heart and making the most of the networking opportunities.

“The evening was light-hearted and fun, despite the serious topic, and Professor Thomas’s speech was an eye-opener for us all.

“I was particularly pleased to see so many men attend the event and the feedback we have received has been extremely positive. Above all we are proud to be raising money that will ultimately help the fight against this disease”.

Bedfordshire BusinessWomen (BBW) was established more than 25 years ago and organises regular monthly events for women living or working in Bedfordshire.
