Lower school pupils hope for a sunny future.
The children and staff at Maple Tree Lower School in Sandy need to raise £10,000 to install solar panels on the school’s roof.
Sandy’s eco-entrepreneur Max McMurdo launched the project in a school assembly. His company, Reestore, recycles old objects into furniture.
Maple Tree Lower is raising the money with the help of Solar Schools, a charity that was set up as a result of the government’s 10:10 project to reduce carbon emissions.
Headteacher Pauline Duncombe said: ““We want to be able to reduce our carbon footprint, save money, create an income by selling power back to the grid and most importantly educate the children to understand our precious environment and help them to realise the importance of saving energy and utilising alternatives.”
The school is relying on the help of the wider community including businesses as well as parents and friends.
Companies can sponsor a solar panel, which can be personalised and linked directly to their own website.
Anyone who wants to help with the fundraising drive by giving their time can call Maple Tree Lower School after the Christmas holidays on 01767 699806.
