Learn life saving skills for free on tomorrow (June 15).

In celebration of their 90th anniversary Biggleswade’s St John Ambulance Cadets are holding a 90 for 90 Challenge.

The 10 to 17-year-olds want to teach basic first aid to 90 members of the public – one for each year. The cadets, supported by adult volunteers, will be present at the Rainbow Nursery fete at Shuttleworth College between 11am and 3pm.

They plan to demonstrate a number of basic first aid techniques including dealing with an unconscious patient who is not breathing, administering cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), treating burns and bleeding, helping someone who is choking, and treating sprains and strains.

There will also be time for the public to have a go with many of these techniques. You can learn just one skill or stay to learn them all. Children can also take part.

Lewis Williams, manager of the Biggleswade Cadet Unit, said: “Everyone should learn first aid and by learning a few basic techniques you will be equipping yourself with life saving skills which could mean that you are the difference between a life lost and a life saved.’

Anyone who views the techniques being demonstrated at the challenge will be presented with a certificate on the day. Advanced booking is not necessary.
