Two young musicians are through to the next round of a top talent competition.
Lucy Barka and Charmaine Dawson – who are both 14 and attend Stratton Upper School in Biggleswade – wowed judges at the regional finals of the national TeenStar contest.
The two friends, who live in Gamlingay perform together as OhMy! and both sing and play the guitar.
They fought off competition from 24 other acts at the event held in London on Sunday, April 21 .
The two will now compete at the area finals for London and the East of England on Saturday, May 18.
Lucy’s mum Liz said: “They did brilliantly even though they were a bit nervous, especially after hearing the great talent of some of the other acts. They performed incredibly well and played a mash-up of three different songs which the judges really liked.”
Judges praised the girls for trying something different and said that there performance was ‘quirky and unique’.
If Lucy and Charmaine impress at the area finals in Hayes, west London then they could win a place at the grand final of the competition at the 02 Arena in July.
Liz believes the friends’ previous experience of performing to different audiences has put them in a good position to compete in the TeenStar contest.
She added: “The girls have done very well and they deserve it as they are very talented and they have performed live previously.
“They have both spent time at the weekends busking in Bedford and Cambridge town and city centres and this has helped to put them in a great position in this competition.”
After the Chronicle covered Lucy and Charmaine’s previous success at the contest auditions in March they were also given a free voice coaching session with a top vocal coach.
The pair have also uploaded some of their early home videos onto YouTube.
