Elections will be held on Thursday (May 2).
Each of the candidates for the vacant seat on Sandy Town Council, representing the Pinnacle ward, has said a few words about themselves.
Christopher Butterfield of Glebe Road: “I’m 21. I live down Glebe road which is in the western Pinnacle and have done so for the past few years.
“I’m standing because I believe one of the most neglected group of individuals in politics is the young people of today, With all the media of the younger generations being antisocial and a nuisance I think it’s time to show the rest of the public that it’s only a small minority and unfair to brand us all similarly.
“Whilst I’m not solely for the young people of course I do believe we all need better representation in Sandy. I hope as many people as possible will vote and if you wish to contact me personally about any issues regarding to the election in Sandy please contact me at chris_butterfield2111@hotmail.com”
Cheryl McDonald of West Road: “There are so many things in Sandy that need doing. I do a lot of volunteering and this is an extension of that. I’ve worked with quite a few of the councillors in various projects. I also volunteer for Bedford Credit Union, the Community First panel and Neighbourhood Watch. I ran a hostel for homeless people. I used to be a teacher.
“I feel that we need people on the council that appreciate ordinary views. There are a lot of business views and town team views, which is great, but I want a nice balance of opinions on the council. I can not only complement the council but maybe see things in a different light.
“It takes a bit of co-operation sometimes and it’s not always available. We can all do this.
“I’d like to represent all of Sandy.”
Claire Phelan of High Street: “I would like to introduce myself as an independent standing for Pinnacle Ward.
“Having been educated and lived in Sandy all of my life I now have three children aged 15, four and two who I would like to see grow and flourish in a town I love and have real passion for.
“From canvassing in Pinnacle Ward there are many things I and the people I have spoken to would like to see changed, improved or rectified. Of these issues the ones that are felt most important and that I would become actively involved in working on are;
- More police presence
- Rebuilding the skate park
- Pavements, road markings and parking
- Trying to tackle the ever increasing problem of dog fouling
- Speeding traffic and the lack of signs on the High Street
“If elected I would strive to serve all residents of Sandy.”
