Information on new St John Ambulance cadet and badger units will be available at an open evening on Tuesday (April 30).
St John Ambulance in Biggleswade has started a badger unit for five to 10 year olds and will be launching a cadet unit for youngsters aged from 10 to 17 in May.
The open evening will take place at the St John Ambulance centre in Crab Lane, Biggleswade from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
There will be similar evenings at the centre where information will be available every Tuesday evening up to and including Tuesday, June 11, running at the same times.
A number of the unit’s adult volunteers will be present to answer questions and it will also be possible to enrol on the evening.
Guided by youth leaders, cadets take part in an interactive and full programme, working towards their Grand Prior Award – the highest achievement they can obtain as a cadet.
The programme enables young people to learn important life skills in a fun and safe environment, but with challenge and excitement appropriate to their age.
Cadets can choose from over 70 different subjects to help complete their award.
These range from fire prevention and photography, to sports and first aid.
Younger Cadets learn first aid skills through the charity’s training course for young people, while older cadets can undertake a community first aid course.
Badgers are the youngest St John Ambulance volunteers and benefit from structured activities and first aid learning to help them develop their skills.
It is hoped that badgers and cadets will want to continue working with St John Ambulance through their school years and into adult life.
