Students learnt an entire play in just one day.

The children and teenagers at Ivel Valley Special School in Biggleswade were visited by Splats Theatre Company before the Easter holidays.

The company specialises in creating dramas with special school pupils. This time they produced The Jungle Book. They have done similar productions all over the country.

Pupils learnt lines, created costumes, practised dances, rehearsed scenes and put on an afternoon performance after starting the whole process from scratch in the morning.

The show took place at Ivel Valley School’s secondary site in Hitchmead Road, in front of staff and fellow pupils, with different classes stepping into the limelight for the various scenes.

Headteacher Julie Mudd said: “This day was even more ad hoc than Splats’ normal shows because they came here with just half a day’s notice after another school had to cancel.

“They’re very hard to get because they’re booked up so far in advance so we jumped at the chance to have them work with our students.

“The pupils made some great masks and really enjoyed themselves, especially singing along to The Bare Necessities!”
