Villagers are delighted that a solution to speeding is on the horizon.
Last month Central Beds Council approved its Local Area Transport Plans. One of the items written into these plans was the addition of a 40mph speed limit to Vinegar Hill in Upper Caldecote.
This is the road entering the village from the Sandy A1 roundabout direction.
People in Pound Close, the residential street that is only just inside the 30mph limit before the road returns to the national speed limit, agree that speeding needs to be stopped.
Mother of three Carolyn Henegan said: “When they built the estate they didn’t move the 30 limit back.
“Drivers come flying past at ridiculous speeds. I’ve been writing to the council for more than a year repeatedly asking to get something done about traffic speed issues down this road.”
Jill Parker of Pound Close, who is a member of Northill Parish Speed Watch, agreed the 40mph buffer limit would be useful but suggested village gates with paint on road would be preferable.
She described the road as a “race track” and said: “We are trying to get the place made safer.” She hopes to meet with the council before a final decision is made.
