Paintings from an aspiring Chronicle Country artist feature in a new display at Luton Airport.
Professional Biggleswade painter Lauren Clemmet is one of a select few artists whose work will feature in a series of new exhibitions at the airport.
The venue held a competition offering artists from Beds, Herts and Bucks the opportunity to have their work put on show.
The airport’s Gateway Gallery now has 23 of the 26-year-old’s paintings on show.
Lauren, of London Road, said: “I saw an advert for the competition and thought I would apply.
“I was thrilled when they got back to me as only a small number of artists were selected.”
Former Stratton Upper School student Lauren does not usually have a particular theme when she paints, but for this exhibition she has focussed on birds and flying.
She added: “I am interested in the feeling of freedom which flight can evoke, the letting go, leaving everything behind without a care in the world, such as going on holiday in an aeroplane.
“I have found it both fascinating and challenging to attempt to fit the two aspects of technical information and natural forms of birds together. “
Lauren was pleased that the exhibition gave her a chance to relate the flight of a bird with that of a plane, and some of the paintings contain suitably technical etchings.
Sian Pearce, community relations executive for the airport said: “We hope that Lauren’s focus on natural aviation and particularly the technical aspect of birds in flight should provide an interesting perspective for our passengers.”
