An aspiring dancer and choreographer has been selected to help put on a performance at the Royal Opera House.

Henry Ward, who attends Sandy Upper School, will perform at the prestigious London venue in May.

The 15-year-old will take part as one of 13 Young Creatives chosen by Youth Dance England (YDE).

Youngsters from across the country will be choreographing and dancing in the production after being selected as Young Creatives.

At 15 Henry is the youngest of the group. The performance will follow a series of skill-boosting, mentoring and residential events the students will take part in over the next four months.

Young Creatives is a YDE programme designed for 15 to 19-year-olds, and aims to give young choreographers all the skills they need to create high quality dance productions.

YDE works in partnership with The Royal Opera House, the Royal Ballet School and professional choreographers to offer the Young Creatives the most thorough training programme possible.

This weekend Henry will join the other selected youngsters for a skill-boosting weekend at the Royal Opera House in preparation for the production.

Professional choreographers will help him to learn about costumes, lighting and sound as well as choreographic techniques.

There will also be a four-day programme in April hosted by The Royal Ballet School in London where Henry will share his ideas for the production with the others.

Additionally he will be mentored over a period of 15 weeks, before the final performance on Friday, May 17. Elaine Boyd, assistant headteacher at Sandy Upper School said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Henry and we are very proud of him.

“The fact that he is the youngest of the selected choreographers demonstrates the talent and dedication he has shown, and we are very much looking forward to seeing the final production.”
